Two Naugatuck High School Projects Funded in State School Construction Package

About $475,000 in state funding for new windows and renovated science labs at Naugatuck High School will be coming to Naugatuck as a result of state legislation adopted at the urging of Rep. Kevin M. DelGobbo, R-70th, Naugatuck.

Rep. DelGobbo said state school construction reimbursement funds included in the new state budget include approximately $135,000 toward an estimated $200,000 expenditure to replace the windows in Naugatuck High School.

He said, “Those were the original windows installed when the school was completed in 1959. This replacement project not only provides the school with working windows but also creates an opportunity for energy cost savings.”

Rep. DelGobbo added, “Naugatuck also will receive approximately $340,000 in reimbursement toward the estimated $500,000 cost of installing new science labs at Naugatuck High School.”

He said, “This lab reimbursement is the result of special legislation that I had passed in 2003 to allow Naugatuck to recoup a portion of these construction expenses, even though Naugatuck had not applied for the state reimbursement when undertaking the project.

He added, “The redesign and refurbishing of the original 1959 science labs include the most modern construction and the latest technology to enhance this vital educational component of our high school.”

Rep. DelGobbo said the state reimbursement funds will allow the town to offset much of the costs of these projects. He added, “These funds do represent a welcome windfall for Naugatuck to use to help retire some school construction debt.”

In addition, several other high school projects moved forward with the assistance of state grants that Rep. DelGobbo helped to secure.

These include improvements and lighting on the high school tennis courts, and the construction of new concession and bathroom facilities for the high school sports complex. Also, they include the installation of a new timing-scoring system at the high school pool this past season and continued progress on the high school’s Davis Auditorium restoration project, which DelGobbo co-chairs.
