DelGobbo Hosts Student Legislators for a Day

Two Students from Naugatuck’s City Hill Middle School Visit House and Senate

HARTFORD—State Rep. Kevin M. DelGobbo (R-70th, Naugatuck) today hosted two student as 2005 Legislators for a Day, who joined him in meetings and visited the state House of Representatives and state Senate in the state Capitol.

The students are Ryan Ford and Alexis Moody, both eighth graders at Naugatuck’s City Hill Middle School, where Rep. DelGobbo had attended. They were selected to travel to the Capitol after winning an essay contest in Mr. Edmund Furs’s social studies class on why they would like to participate.

The students toured the Capitol and Legislative Office Building, learned about the legislative process, and participated along with Rep. DelGobbo during his daily duties. These included responding to constituent requests, reviewing issues currently under discussion, meeting with other legislators, visiting the governor’s office and working with other legislators. They each received a special legislative citation congratulating them.

“This is an annual program that I have sponsored to encourage students to learn more about their state government and how it works,” said Rep. DelGobbo. “With only a few days to go until the session ends on June 8, bills that were drafted and debated in committee now come to the floor for a vote by the entire state House of Representatives and state Senate. This is a great way experience for students and learn first hand how new laws are made.”

Rep. DelGobbo serves the 70th Assembly District of Naugatuck in the state House of Representatives. He frequently invites students to the Capitol for educational tours and meetings.
