Rep. DelGobbo Appointed to Bi-State Long Island Sound Committee

State Representative Kevin M. DelGobbo (R-70th, Naugatuck) has been appointed to the Bi-State Long Island Sound Marine Resources Committee, responsible for enhancing Long Island Sound. The committee makes specific recommendations concerning the maintenance, protection and restoration of the sound.

House Minority Leader Robert M. Ward (R-86, North Branford) appointed Rep. DelGobbo to the 18-member high-level committee, nine each from Connecticut and New York.

Rep. DelGobbo, who is ranking member of the legislature’s Energy and Technology Committee, said, “I am honored to participate in this important effort of New York and Connecticut to preserve such a vital resource, but also one that is so vital to our economy and to our energy policy.”

The committee, created by the legislatures in Connecticut and New York, oversees issues and makes an annual report to the governors and legislatures on a variety of concerns including relating to Long Island Sound.

In recent years, Long Island Sound has been a frequent subject of controversy over issues such as electric transmission lines between southern Connecticut and Long Island. Most recently, a liquefied natural gas facility on the New York side of the Sound also has been proposed.
