Reps. Delgobbo, Greene, Labriola Remind Residents Of Upcoming Sales-Tax Free Week |

(Hartford, CT) State Representatives Kevin DelGobbo (R-Naugatuck), Len Greene (R-Beacon Falls) and David Labriola, today reminded residents that Connecticut’s sales-tax-free week for clothing and footwear items under $300 runs this year from Sunday, August 15 to Saturday, August 21.
Earlier this year, the legislature agreed to reinstate the one-week sales exemption from the state’s six per cent sales tax. The state of Connecticut began the sales tax free week in August 2000. Proposals have been introduced in the legislature to add a second week later in the year, but they have not received legislative approval.
Examples of clothing exempted during the sales tax-free holiday are jeans, dresses, blouses, shirts, shoes, sneakers, scarves, gloves, and belts. Non-apparel items, such as jewelry, wallets, and luggage are not included in the exemption.
“I think this is a great way to provide some relief for families in what is unfortunately a far too heavily taxed citizenry,” said Representative DelGobbo. “This will help shoppers dollars go a little bit further.”
“I’m very happy we were able to reinstate this tax break,” said Rep. Greene. “It not only helps the people who purchase goods but retailers as well, which is good for the economy.”
“This program provides welcome tax relief for families at ‘back-to-school’ time,” said Rep. Labriola. “Of course, all citizens can take advantage of the savings too.”
