Rep. DelGobbo: Cardiac Care Units at Waterbury and St. Mary’s Hospitals Vital to Region |

NAUGATUCK—State Representative Kevin M. DelGobbo (R-70th, Naugatuck) has stated his strong support for expanding cardiac care at St. Mary’s and Waterbury Hospitals to serve patients with health problems from throughout the region.
An application is pending with the State’s Office of Health Care Access for expanded cardiac care services at St. Mary’s, such as angioplasty and open heart surgery. Rep. DelGobbo noted that these services are currently available only in Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport and the UConn Medical Center in Farmington.
Rep. DelGobbo noted that legislators from the entire Waterbury region have been working together to support this application. “There has been broad public support for this,” Rep. DelGobbo said, “but we need to keep up the pressure.”
“Heart problems are a major health risk and frequently become life and death issues for many people,” said Rep. DelGobbo. “Quick access to angioplasty truly helps save lives of patients. We should have local access to a full range of medical treatments and procedures and not place patients at further risk by having to be transported so far away.”
Rep. DelGobbo said Connecticut requires hospitals to obtain state approval for major investments in expanded services. He urged citizens who want to express their views on the St. Mary’s and Waterbury Hospitals’ application to contact the Office of Health Care Access as soon as possible at the following address:
