Rep. D’Amelio: OPM Okays Grant for East Mountain Neighborhood Association |

The state Office of Policy and Management has approved a $1,250 grant for the East Mountain Neighborhood Association to help fund the purchase of a bench that will memorialize Waterbury Firefighter Captain John Keane, who died in the line of duty in May 2007, state Representative Anthony J. D’Amelio said today.
“The bench, which will be placed on the back side of East Mountain Park overlooking the reservoir, will memorialize Captain Keane’s service to Waterbury and to his neighbors in the East Mountain neighborhood,” said Representative D’Amelio, R-71st District, who helped secure the funding for the project.
“The East Mountain Neighborhood Association is one of the most active community organizations in Waterbury. Over the years, they have worked for projects that benefit the neighborhood, preserve its character and help the needy. I’m glad I was able to help gain approval for this project, which will honor the memory of Captain Keane, his years of service to Waterbury, and his efforts on behalf of East Mountain residents,” Representative D’Amelio said.
“The total cost of the memorial bench, including engraving, materials and installation, amounts to $1,550. The additional funding needed for the project will be raised through donations,” Representative D’Amelio said.
