State Bond Commission Approves $895,000 to Replace Bridge on Route 64 in Middlebury |

Construction to Get Underway in August; Be Completed in October
The State Bond Commission has approved funding totaling $895,000 to pay for the replacement of a bridge on Route 64 over Goat Brook in Middlebury, state Representative Anthony J. D’Amelio, R-71st District, said today.
The Bond Commission approved the funding at its regular monthly meeting Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
“Although the bridge over Goat Brook on Route 64 is still safe for motorists to use, some sections of the structure are deteriorating and state Department of Transportation engineers and inspectors believed the most effective solution to the problem was to replace the bridge rather than repair it,” Representative D’Amelio said.
“The bridge replacement project will enhance traffic safety in the area and is in the best long-term interests of Middlebury residents who live near the bridge as well as motorists who drive through the area regularly. I’d like to thank Governor Rell and the bond commission for their support for this important project,” Representative D’Amelio said.
Construction is scheduled to begin in August 2008 and be completed in the spring of 2009. Route 64 will be closed in the area for about four weeks to reduce the time required to install a new box culvert. While Route 64 is closed, traffic will be detoured on state roads (Route 188 and Route 63), a state Department of Transportation official said.
