Reps D’Amelio, Berger: Bond Commission Approves Funding
for Waterbury Park Projects, I-84 Study |

The State Bond Commission today approved funding for several Waterbury projects, including $750,000 for improvements at East Mountain Park, $250,000 for renovations and improvements to the greenhouse complex in Fulton Park, and $359,341 for fire code improvements at Founders Hall at Naugatuck Valley Community College, state representatives Anthony J. D’Amelio, R-71st District, and state Senator Jeffrey J. Berger, D-73rd District, said today.
The Bond Commission also approved $3,000,000 for an environmental impact evaluation for a highway widening project for Interstate 84 between Waterbury and the New York state line, the legislators said.
“Waterbury’s parks contribute significantly to the attractiveness and quality of life in our neighborhoods,” Representative D’Amelio said. “They give our children safe places to play and green space where adults can relax and socialize. The grants for the improvements at East Mountain Park and the renovations to the greenhouse complex at Fulton Park will ensure they are preserved and passed onto our children and grandchildren in as good or better condition than they were when we enjoyed them. Waterbury always has been one of the most livable cities in Connecticut. I’d like to thank Governor Rell and the bond commission for helping us to maintain that tradition.”
“It’s important for Waterbury and our legislative delegation to maintain a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life throughout the city, including improving our parks, and providing more funding for local schools and for Naugatuck Valley Community College,” said Representative Berger, D-73rd District. “It’s our tax dollars flowing back to our city and directly benefiting our citizens.”
The East Mountain Park improvements include construction of a new basketball court, and renovation work on the park shelter, ornamental fencing, and memorial entry.
The Fulton Park Greenhouse complex project involves renovations to the main greenhouse, existing office, the garage and chemical room, the end storage room, the cold storage room, and the attached caretaker’s cottage. The work will include replacement of outside glass, new lighting and electrical improvements and a new roof.
