Waterbury Legislative Delegation Announce Funding for Naugatuck Valley Community College

State lawmakers announce $27 million in state funding approved by the State Bond Commission for Naugatuck Valley Community-Technical College (NVCC) in Waterbury.  These funds will be set aside for a new 100,000 square foot technology building to replace the existing 35-year old technology facility, and will also permit the elimination of antiquated modular buildings.  State Representatives Jeffrey Berger (D-Waterbury), Reginald Beamon (D-Waterbury), David Aldarondo (D-Waterbury), Selim Noujaim (R-Waterbury), Anthony D’Amelio (R-Middlebury, Waterbury), and State Senators Joan Hartley (D-Naugatuck, Prospect, Waterbury) and Christopher Murphy (D-Cheshire, Southington, Waterbury, Wolcott) praise the commission members on their efforts to get the funding approved.

“I am excited that these funds have been approved for Naugatuck Valley,” said Rep. Berger.  “By getting these funds approved, we can provide students with a safe environment conducive for learning.  I will continue my efforts to strengthen the schools in my district and the entire city.”

NVCC offers high quality associate degrees, certificates, and hundreds of continuing education opportunities to help meet the educational goals of its students.

“This will enhance the availability of IT skills for teachers and students in our entire region,” said Rep. Beamon.  “It should be a boon for IT learning.”

“This project is significantly valuable to the entire city as we move closer to meeting the technology challenges of the 21st Century,” said Rep. Aldarondo.  “I am delighted to have worked with the delegation on this important accomplishment.”

“I spent eight years on the board of Waterbury State Technical College, and upon becoming NVCC I worked on the council until 2001,” said Rep. Noujaim.  “I know first-hand how antiquated some of the facilities have become and they are in dire need of replacement.  This bond package will be a benefit to the entire community.”

“The Naugatuck Valley Community College is a tremendous asset to the 71st District, and the entire Waterbury community,” said Rep. D’Amelio. “The updates and upgrades will be a critical addition to the campus and I thank Governor Rell and the Bond Commission for their consideration.”

“This technology building is a long-awaited project that will provide the college with ample bricks and mortar to have a vibrant, growing program that's been crucial to the greater Waterbury community as well as the state of Connecticut,” Sen. Joan Hartley said.

"This new technology facility will transform the way students at NVCC learn and interact with the world around them," Sen. Murphy said. "Ours is a changing economy, with a much greater emphasis on math, science and emerging technologies. The students who choose to study at NVCC will earn their degree in a collegiate environment buzzing with the latest technological advancements, better preparing them for the workforce after graduation."
