REPRESENTATIVE CARSON RECEIVES LEADERSHIP, COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS

State Representative Mary Ann Carson, R-New Fairfield, has been appointed by House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero, R-Norwalk, to serve as an Assistant Minority Leader for the 2009-2010 legislative sessions. As an assistant minority leader, she will help formulate Caucus policies and positions.
“Mary Ann Carson is well-respected as a diligent, hardworking legislator by her colleagues,” said Rep. Cafero. “She’s a welcome addition to our leadership team and I’m certain will continue to serve both her constituents and the entire State of Connecticut extremely well.”
Rep. Carson has also been appointed to serve as Ranking Member (House Republican leader) of the Legislature’s Program Review and Investigations Committee. The Committee is a joint, bipartisan, statutory committee established to evaluate the efficiency, effectiveness, and statutory compliance of selected state agencies and programs, recommending remedies where needed. It also conducts performance audits, management reviews, and policy studies of State Agencies and programs.
In addition, she will serve as a member of the Legislature’s Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, which has cognizance over all matters relating to taxation, finance, revenue, capital bonding and fees. The committee also has cognizance over employer contributions for unemployment compensation and all matters relating to the Department of Revenue Services and the revenue aspects of the Division of Special Revenue.
Finally, Rep. Carson will serve as a member of the Public Health Committee, which has cognizance of all programs and matters relating to the Department of Public Health; the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Department of Mental Retardation; the Office of Health Care Access; and all other matters relating to health, including emergency medical services, all licensing boards within the Department of Public Health, nursing homes, pure food and drugs, and controlled substances, including the treatment of substance abuse.
