LEGISLATION COMMEMORATING LOCAL ROADWAYS AS ‘VETERANS WAY’ APPROVED BY LEGISLATURE

On June 6, the State Senate gave final legislative approval to Public Act 07-232, An Act Concerning The Administration Of The Department Of Transportation. PA 07-232 contains provisions that specifically rename the following segments of road in the 108th Assembly District as “Veterans Way”:

"The naming of these roadways is to honor all veterans, past and present for their service,"  said Sen. Cappiello.  "With Independence Day upon us I cannot think of a better time for this bill to be signed."

Rep. State Mary Ann Carson (R-108) noted that this spring, legislators arranged for the state Department of Transportation (DOT) to provide signs that clearly illustrate the name of Veterans Memorial Bridge (which spans the Housatonic River) in New Milford as well.

“The Veterans of our communities have made tremendous sacrifices to protect our freedom, our quality of life and to help ensure New Fairfield, Kent, Sherman and New Milford are places we are proud to call home,” said Rep. Carson. “This legislation is a small but meaningful way to help recognize their efforts.”

“This designation is a tribute to our Veterans and their contributions to our country and our communities,” said Rep. Giegler (R-138). “I am pleased we were able to see this initiative approved this year.”
