$105,000 School Security Funds Awarded to Killingly

State Rep. Michael Caron, R-44, Killingly, Plainfield, Sterling, announced that Killingly will receive $104,708 in state grants for school security equipment.

Five schools in Killingly will share the funds, which can be used for such items as surveillance camera, entry buzzers, alarms, scan card systems and portable screening devices.

The funds were included of $5 million in competitive statewide grants awarded by Gov. M. Jodi Rell. More than 360 schools applied for more funds than were available. A new round of school security grants will become available later this year for schools that apply.

Rep. Caron said, “We have worked with local parents and school officials who are concerned about preventing intruders from entering local schools. These funds will help toward providing more safety for students and peace of mind for parents.”

He added, “We thank Gov. Rell for once again recognizing the needs of local schools in northeastern Connecticut.”

Rep. Caron serves the 44th Assembly District of Killingly, Plainfield and Sterling in the state House of Representatives.
