State Rep. Michael Caron, R-44th District, Killingly, Plainfield, Sterling, announced that the new state budget will increase state aid to local public schools and towns by nearly $2 million in the coming year and another $1 million the following year.

The two-year state budget has received final approval from the state House and Senate and it is expected to be signed into law by Gov. M. Jodi Rell before the start of the new fiscal year that begins on July 1.

Highlights include:

Killingly will receive $16,009,494 in the fiscal year beginning July 1, up $939,019 from the current fiscal year. Killingly is scheduled to receive $16,652,035 in the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2008, an additional $642,541 increase.

Plainfield will receive $16,016,320 in the fiscal year beginning July 1, up $1,186,851 from the current fiscal year. Plainfield is scheduled to receive $16,663,396 in the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2008, an additional $647,076 increase.

Sterling will receive $3,367,606 in the fiscal year beginning July 1, up $325,935 from the current fiscal year. Sterling is scheduled to receive $3,501,057 in the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2008, an additional $133,451 increase.

“This budget provides an additional $2 million for the schools and town services in our communities,” said Rep. Caron. “Yet, there will be no increases in the state income tax, in the state sales tax nor many of the other tax hikes that had been proposed.”

Rep. Caron serves the 44th Assembly District of Killingly, Plainfield and Sterling in the state House of Representatives.
