Candelora Announces Small Cities Grants to Wallingford , East Haven |

HARTFORD – State Representative Vincent Candelora (R-86) today announced that the towns of East Haven and Wallingford have received funding through the federal Small Cities Community Development Block Grant.
East Haven has been awarded $300,000 to continue a town-wide housing rehabilitation program. Deferred or low-interest loans are provided to income-eligible projects and applicants to rehabilitate the town’s housing stock and preserve decent, safe and affordable housing options. East Haven intends to rehabilitate 10 housing units.
Wallingford has been awarded a $700,000 grant for the East Side Terrace Elderly Housing complex. The town will renovate 30 units of elderly housing and eliminate structural deficiencies. The plan for the complex will include a roof redesign to eliminate poor drainage, replace windows, entry doors, and install storm and screen doors meant to improve energy efficiency.
“I am delighted that Wallingford and East Haven have been awarded these grants,” said Representative Candelora. “Both towns have vital projects that these funds will be allowed to go forward. Grants like the Small Cities grants allow investment in our towns without having to turn to local tax dollars for the improvements. I am also appreciative of DECD and Governor Rell keeping East Haven and Wallingford as priorities for this kind of funding.”
The federal funds are allocated through the State Department of Economic and Community Development under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. East Haven and Wallingford were two of twenty-eight towns awarded a total of over $13 million in Small Cities funds which were allocated to eligible municipalities for economic development, affordable housing, community facilities and revitalization of development projects.
