North Branford Legislator Made Republican Leader on ‘General Government B’ Subcommittee

HARTFORD- Freshman State Representative Vincent Candelora (R-North Branford), who serves on the powerful budget-writing Appropriations Committee, has been appointed as Ranking Member to a critical subcommittee of Appropriations.  Committee Co-Chairs Senator Toni N. Harp and Representative Denise W. Merrill joined with Ranking Members Senator David Cappiello and Representative Kevin M. DelGobbo in making the appointment.

The Appropriations Committee oversees all matters relating to appropriations and the budgets of state agencies.  They also have jurisdiction over state employees’ salaries, benefits and retirement, teachers’ retirement and veterans’ pensions, as well as collective bargaining agreements and arbitration awards for all state employees.

The General Government B Subcommittee has jurisdiction over the Department of Administrative Services, Department of Public Works, Attorney General, State Comptroller, State Treasurer, Office of Policy and Management, Department of Revenue Services, Division of Special Revenue, Office of the Claims Commissioner, Gaming Policy Board, Ct State Firefighters Association and the Department of Information and Technology.

“I am honored to be selected to serve as Ranking Member on this important subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee,” said Candelora.  “With the delivery of the Governor’s proposed budget today, there is a great deal of work to be done on the committee and all subcommittees.  I look forward to the challenges ahead of us as we work to craft a responsible and effective budget for the state of Connecticut.”

“This subcommittee is one of the key subcommittees in the Appropriations process,” said Representative Lawrence Cafero (R-Norwalk), the House Republican Leader.  “This panel reviews some of the most important funding aspects of state government.  Vin Candelora brings excellent skills to this post and I am pleased to have him serve as the Republican leader of this subcommittee.”

Candelora has also been selected to serve on the Judicial and Corrections and Results-Based Accountability subcommittees of Appropriations.

This session of the Connecticut General Assembly began on January 3rd, and will adjourn sine die on June 6th, 2007.
