REP. CAFERO LANDS $375,000 FOR OYSTER SHELL PARK DEVELOPMENT

HARTFORD – House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr. today announced that $375,000 has been earmarked for the development of the Oyster Shell Park project.

The Office of Policy and Management has set aside the appropriation that will help move the development along and is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve South Norwalk’s cultural, educational and economic resources.

“This is a significant allocation of funds for Norwalk. The city’s efforts to reclaim what was a landfill and link this revitalized property with our other cultural attractions will be an incredible step forward,’’ Cafero said. “We appreciate the fact that Gov. Jodi Rell’s administration recognizes the value of this project.’’

The Oyster Shell Park property is located near the Norwalk Aquarium, the Lockwood Museum and the Stepping Stones Museum for Children. It sits directly on the Norwalk River and Cafero said once complete the entire area will be a wonderful environmental attraction in what is a highly developed urban setting.

“Oyster Shell Park will be a huge draw for those working in the area during the week and people living in the surrounding neighborhoods on weekends,’’ Cafero said.

He said the park will expand as a setting for art displays, recreation and education.

The money is expected to be part of the state Bond Commission agenda at it s regular meeting this Friday. Cafero said he is hopeful the money might be approved then.
