REP. CAFERO PROMOTES NORWALK RIVER ROWING CLUB PROGRAM |

NORWALK – State Rep. Lawrence F. Cafero Jr. of Norwalk today praised the Norwalk River rowing Association for expanding its youth mentoring and community outreach programs and urged members of the local business community to continuing to support the organization’s boathouse construction campaign that is underway.
Cafero was instrumental in staging a breakfast gathering at the Norwalk Inn that featured business and community leaders and local educators and religious figures. The association this June will mark its 20th year of operation. The new 20,000-square-foot boathouse on Moody Lane in the center of the city will better serve the more than 400 people from Norwalk and Fairfield County that participate in the association’s activities.
“This new facility will allow the association to become a true community asset and will mean that many more people from throughout Fairfield County will be able to take advantage of what this organization has to offer,’’ Cafero said. “I cannot stress how important the support of the business community and other local groups means for the Norwalk River Rowing Association.’’
Association members said that at Cafero’s urging last fall they organized the breakfast gathering in order to bring the public up to date on the activities underway, particularly the boathouse project. The new facility, they said, will allow for expansion of more recreational, cultural and education programs.
The boathouse will double the association’s program capacity.
Cafero, the Republican Deputy House Leader, is serving in his seventh term in the legislature. He has been instrumental in creating state support for a variety of youth mentoring programs. “The commitment we make to our young people is the wisest investment we can make,’’ he said
In addition to the boathouse campaign the association provided updates on its Reach Out and Row program that attracts young people to rowing. The program teaches the value of teamwork athletics and commitment.
The association is also active in recruiting new members from local schools and through non-profit service providers.
