Reps Hamzy, Burns Urge Residents to Nominate Local Vets for Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame |

In Addition to Military Service, Nominees Must Have Continued to Serve Community, State, or Nation
State Representatives William A. Hamzy and Ron Burns today urged Bristol and Plymouth residents to nominate local veterans who are active in their communities for induction into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame.
“Governor Rell established the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame in 2005 to recognize the contributions our veterans have made to our communities, our state and our country,” said Representative Hamzy, R-78th District. “There are hundreds of Bristol and Plymouth veterans who have outstanding records of service to both their country and our towns. If you know a veteran who you think should be included in this year’s Hall of Fame class, I urge you to submit his or her name. It honors them for the sacrifices they made for our country and their efforts on behalf of our towns.”
“Many veterans who served their country continue to be active in their communities after they are discharged,” said Representative Burns, R-77th District. “They serve on local boards and commissions; are involved in civic and church organizations; and put in countless volunteer hours to support local charities. They all have one thing in common – they love their towns and try to make them better places to live, work and raise our families. If you know a veteran who is active in our towns and should be recognized, I encourage you to nominate that person for induction into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame.”
The Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame inducts 10 veterans each year who have honorably served their country through military service and continue to serve and inspire with their accomplishments throughout their lifetime. Eligible veterans who have ties to Connecticut are selected by an executive committee. The committee is chaired by the Commissioner of Veterans’ Affairs and includes: the Adjutant General of the Connecticut National Guard; a Medal of Honor recipient from Connecticut; two appointees selected by the Governor; and two appointments from the legislative branch – one from a Senate leader and one from a House leader.
Applications for induction are solicited from all Connecticut citizens and according to the Nomination Guidelines. The guidelines include:
