Reps Miller, Belden: Shelton Historical Society Receives $1,700 Grant |

Funding Will Help Pay for New Air Conditioning Unit at Brownson House
A $1,700 grant for a new air conditioning unit at the Shelton Historical Society’s Brownson House will reduce relative humidity within the building and help preserve important archives from the town’s past, state Representatives Lawrence G. Miller, R-122nd District and Richard O. Belden, R-113th District announced today.
The grant, which was awarded by the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation, will help pay for the design and installation of a split ductless air conditioning unit at the Brownson House, which will allow for the creation of a more appropriate space for the storage of archival documents of historic significance to the town, the legislators said.
“The new air conditioning system will significantly reduce humidity within the building and help keep historic archival documents from deteriorating,” Representative Miller said. “The archives that will be stored here are important to historians and researchers who want to know more about the town’s past. They provide information that is available nowhere else and need special care to ensure an irreplaceable part of the town’s history is preserved for generations to come.”
Brownson House (c. 1820) is used by the Historical Society to store and display artifacts and documents of historic significance to the town.
