Gov. Rell, Rep. Bacchiochi: $148,620 STEAP Grant Approved for Union Road Reconstruction Project |

The State Bond Commission today approved a $148,620 grant that will pay for the reconstruction of Rindge Road in Union, Governor M. Jodi Rell and state Representative Penny Bacchiochi, R-52nd District, announced today.
The funding comes through the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP). The funding was approved at today’s Bond Commission meeting.
“Maintaining a strong road infrastructure in our small towns is critical to facilitating local business access and growth,” said Governor Rell. “We are pleased to partner with Union in this substantial road project that will also improve safety for the residents of the region.”
“Rindge Road has deteriorated significantly over the years, creating conditions that are hazardous for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians,” Representative Bacchiochi said. “The reconstruction work this grant will fund will include a new road overlay, guard rails and new traffic signs. I’d like to thank Governor Rell for supporting a project that will benefit the smallest town in Connecticut. It will improve public safety, help prevent serious accidents and save lives.”
The project will involve the reconstruction and resurfacing of Rindge Road and the installation of new guard rails and street signs.
