Alberts Thanks Gov. Rell for $128,250 Open Space Grant |

State Rep. Mike Alberts, R-50th, Brooklyn, Eastford, Hampton, Pomfret, Woodstock, today thanked Governor M. Jodi Rell and her administration for a $128,000 open space grant to preserve the 44.7 acres Loos Property in Pomfret.
Gov. Rell announced (DEP) grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection today at a ceremony in Middletown. The funds will help the Wyndham Land Trust preserve the Loos property, which is adjacent to its existing property, the 101 acre Duck Marsh Preserve, and near DEP land along the Air Line Trail.
“This is extremely good news,” said Rep. Alberts. “These grants help preserve the rural character of our area, protect the environment and prevent overdevelopment. On behalf of the people of northeastern Connecticut, we thank the governor for her assistance in preserving another important open space property.”
The property also is located with the National Audubon Society Important Bird Area. Much of this property consists of large inland wetlands. This creates a very favorable habitat for a large variety of bird species, some of which are listed as endangered and threatened. This wetlands body flows into Bark Meadow Brook, a tributary of the Quinebaug River.
