‘STEAP’ Funding For Brooklyn |

Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that $465,000 in new state funding will soon be available to Brooklyn to make road and storm water run-off improvements on Day Street. The funding comes from the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) that is to be approved at the next meeting of the State Bond Commission.
“There are drainage problems on Day Street due to old piping and problems with catch basins,” Governor Rell said. “All across the state, we are reviewing problem areas like Day Street and taking the necessary steps to craft solutions. In recent months, our state has witnessed first hand the considerable damage that pounding rain storms can cause. We want to take preventive measures now in Brooklyn so that we can be prepared for anything nature sends our way. I thank Representative Alberts for his leadership on this issue.”
“I was pleased to work with Governor Rell on attaining these funds for Brooklyn,” said State Representative Michael Alberts. “The governor understands the needs of towns like ours and she acts swiftly to address safety issues like this one. We want to make sure that Day Street’s deficiencies are dealt with as soon as possible, and Governor Rell has heard myself and First Selectman Roger Engle loud and clear. This is great news for town residents.”
A total of $20 million has been authorized for more than 100 small towns under the STEAP program this fiscal year. The Bond Commission will meet October 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
