Legislature Votes 10-year, $2.3-billion Transportation Package

Rep. Mike Alberts Hails Inclusion of Possible Rail Line in Eastern Connecticut

State Rep. Mike Alberts, R-50th, hailed passage of a 10-year, $2.3-billion transportation package that includes an examination of a possible passenger rail line in eastern Connecticut from New London to Worcester, Massachusetts.

The state House of Representatives approved the legislation today. The measure now goes to the Senate and to the governor for enactment into law.

The package follows Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s $1.3 billion transportation initiative last year that included funding for 342 new rail cars on the New Haven commuter line.

Rep. Alberts said, “I was eager to support this legislation. The I-395 corridor has seen tremendous growth in population and transportation over the past 20 years. This is a unique opportunity to consider implementing a commuter rail line in eastern Connecticut. It would link tourist destinations and work sites to Worcester and beyond.”

Rep. Mike Alberts serves the 50th Assembly District of Brooklyn, Eastford, Hampton, Pomfret and Woodstock.
