Adinolfi: Bill for Legionnaire Seminary Accreditation Passes the General Assembly

HARTFORD- State Representative Al Adinolfi (R-103) praised the passage by the General Assembly of legislation he introduced and sponsored which would permit the Legion of Christ College of Humanities, located in the town of Cheshire, to confer associates degrees and grant diplomas as other accredited colleges and universities do.

The Legion of Christ College of Humanities was duly accredited by the Board of Governors for Higher Education on April 18, 2007.

“This is a process that has taken approximately three years,” said Adinolfi.  “I am very pleased that this bill was approved, allowing the over 160 seminarians who are studying for the priesthood to be appropriately awarded a degree for their course of study, and to receive transferable credits.  This final stage in allowing the Legion of Christ College of Humanities to confer this degree will also mean that $190,000 in state PILOT funds will continue to go to the town of Cheshire, which was scheduled to dry up following this year had the bill not passed.”

The bill was unanimously approved by the legislature’s Higher Education Committee and was passed in concurrence on the final day of the legislative session.  The bill now heads to Governor Rell for her signature.

The 2008 session of the Connecticut General Assembly adjourned at midnight on Wednesday, May 7th.
