State Rep. Penny Bacchiochi (R-Somers) recently presented a $5,000 check to Somers Historical Society President Carole Pyne. The funding from the state will be used for a series of improvements at the Somers Historical Society.

On May 20, the Union Volunteer Fire Department successfully launched its new water rescue boat. The vessel is expected to be used for rescue efforts on the town’s various water ways and recreation areas, including Bigelow Hollow State Park, Morey Pond and Mashpaug. The boat was purchased with a $10,000 grant from the state that was obtained through the work of state Rep. Penny Bacchiochi (pictured at left) and state Sen. Tony Guglielmo.

The Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut (UPFFA of CT) held a Fire Ops 101 Day at the City of Hartford Fire Department Training Center on Monday, May 7. The purpose of Fire Ops 101 was to help Connecticut legislators gain an understanding of the every day life of professional, career firefighters, by utilizing a ‘hands-on’ approach. Among the legislators participating in the event was state Rep. Penny Bacchiochi (R-Somers). Above, Rep.
